Bio
Chris Griffin earned an Associate of Science degree in Pre-Engineering from Roane State Community College (RSCC) from 1979 to 1981, where he played golf under Raider's Head Coach Eddie Liskovec. In his first year during the Spring of 1980, Griffin advanced to the National Tournament held in Fort Myers, Florida. After completing two years at RSCC, he transferred to Tennessee Technological University (TTU) and played for the late Bobby Nichols from 1981 to 1983, obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Griffin enjoyed an exciting 39-year career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), retiring in May 2022. He emphasizes that golfers should never underestimate the value of golf in the business world and encourages others to utilize the skills they have learned on the course to build connections and rapport with business associates while playing the greatest game ever.
His love for golf began at the Emory Golf Course in Harriman, Tennessee, when he was 12 years old. He received mentorship from several "Golf Dads," including Maynard Human, Bruce Isham, and RW Ladd, while competing daily with their sons—Gary Human, Wayne Human, Charlie Isham, and Steve Ladd—at the 9-hole club. Griffin credits his early love and knowledge of the game to these formative years at Emory Golf Club and to his Uncle Wayne Griffin, who taught Chris and his father, Max Griffin, how to play golf. Furthermore, Griffin learned the value of family from his late mother, Ann Griffin, an RSCC alumna and retiree.
In the fall of 2018, Griffin revived the Men’s Golf program at RSCC, where he continues to coach the Raiders and has built the RSCC Golf Program around a strong family culture.
Coach Griffin acknowledges the contributions of other Raider Golf Coaches: Charlie Isham (Raiders Life Coach), Tony Wright (Raiders Putting Coach), and Bo Harris (Lady Raiders Head Coach), stating they have created one of the best coaching staffs in junior college golf nationally.
