RAIDER RUNNERS MEDAL, ADVANCE TO NATIONALS
Four Roane State student-athletes took home hardware following the NJCAA Region 7 Cross Country Championship Meet held on October 25 at the college's main campus in Harriman. Now, the runners are headed for nationals.
Both the Raiders and Lady Raiders put up impressive numbers. Freshman Kailee Rossman snagged top honors among the Lady Raiders with a first place time of 20.37 in the 5K, while sophomore Elizabeth Benny finished fifth with a time of 23 minutes flat.
This is not the first stellar performance for Rossman this season. Back in August, she placed first in the Walters State Invitational 5K, clocking a final time more than a minute faster than second place. Rossman was named TCCAA and NJCAA Runner of the Week shortly afterward.
Both Rossman and Benny's recent performance qualified them to compete in the NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championship set for November 9 in Richmond, Virginia.
On the men's side, Zachary Burger finished fourth overall with a time of 28.39 in the 8K. Isaac Hickey placed seventh with a time of 30.45, securing the final medalist spot.
The fourth and seventh place finishes for Burger and Hickey, respectively, landed them a spot in nationals next month along with their two Lady Raider teammates.
Roane State competes in men's, women's, and team events in cross country. Schedules, rosters, results, and regional standings are available at roanestate.edu/mxc for the men's team and roanestate.edu/wxc for the women's team.
