Bobby Holcombe is a seasoned runner and accomplished coach with a distinguished career spanning over two decades. His competitive journey began under the mentorship of Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier Dave Nelson, followed by a pivotal training period with University of Tennessee’s renowned coach, George Watts. During this time, Holcombe excelled as a runner, boasting impressive personal records and a strong competitive record, including numerous race victories and top finishes in prestigious events like the Boston Marathon.

In 2002, Holcombe's passion for the sport led him to coaching, where he has mentored hundreds of athletes of all levels, from beginners to elite competitors. His coaching philosophy emphasizes personalized attention and a holistic approach to development.

Holcombe's impressive coaching resume includes producing over 700 Boston Marathon qualifiers, three Olympic Trials qualifiers, and multiple state championship teams. His dedication to the sport is evident in his extensive involvement in the running community, serving as a program director for various initiatives and coaching at multiple levels, from high school to college.

As the new head cross country coach at Roane State, Holcombe brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. His ability to inspire and develop athletes will be invaluable as he builds a strong running program at the college.
