LADY RAIDERS HEAD TO MEMPHIS FOR POSTSEASON BATTLE
Postseason play tips off in Memphis on Saturday, March 8, for Roane State Women's Basketball.
The Lady Raiders (12-12 overall, 11-8 in the conference) head into to their first-round matchup with 4 seed Dyersburg State after splitting the last eight games of the regular season, 4-4.
That stretch includes a 1-point loss to Dyersburg State on February 8, with a final score of 68-67. The first matchup between the two went to the Lady Raiders in November, 68-66, so another close game could be in store.
"The Lady Raiders have been immensely competitive this season, winning their last regular season game by nearly 30 points," said David Lane, Roane State's director of athletics. "These closer matchups, like the games with Dyersburg, tend to bring out the best in our student-athletes. We're excited to cheer them on this weekend."
Freshman guard Layla Bouldin put up impressive numbers in her inaugural season with the Lady Raiders. She led the team with 326 total points scored, shooting 54.9% from the field and a whopping 91.2% from the free throw line.
Bouldin also leads the team in minutes played (513), rebounds (93), and steals (39), but trails freshman center Jenna Bush in blocks 0-43. Bush swatted shots away regularly, leading that category for the Lady Raiders by a large margin. Her next closest teammate is freshman guard Carly Hunt with 8.
With a win on Saturday, the Lady Raiders would face the winner of #1 seed Walters State's matchup with either #8 Pellissippi State or #9 Volunteer State. The 8/9 game tips at noon on Friday, March 7.
