WOMEN’S SOCCER HOSTS FIRST-EVER PRACTICE AHEAD OF INAUGURAL SEASON
Roane State's newest sport, women's soccer, held its first practice on August 1, 2024, ahead of the inaugural season for the team.
Incoming players and coaching staff gathered at the college's flagship campus in Harriman, utilizing a temporary field across from the Dunbar Building for this first practice.
The team's permanent playing field will be located across Patton Lane near the softball field. Athletics staffers are still prepping the pitch for the season, but it is expected to be ready for use soon.
"While women's soccer will be our first sporting event of the fall, fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to see the Lady Raiders play at home," said David Lane, Roane State's director of athletics.
The soccer schedule starts with two away games, the first at Johnson University in Knoxville on August 20, 2024. The first home game for Lady Raiders Soccer is set for August 28, 2024, at 6pm ET against Bryan College.
"Admission is free," Lane added, "so we are asking every student, faculty member, staff member, and fan to join us as we cheer on the Lady Raiders Soccer team for the very first time at Roane State."
Donnie Green was named head coach for the women's soccer team earlier this year. He was joined by Nathan Worley as assistant coach.
Lady Raiders Soccer is part of the National Junior College Athletic Association's (NJCAA) region 7, which includes colleges from across the State of Tennessee.
